What are the Steps of a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

A full mouth reconstruction is a collection of dental procedures used to correct multiple aesthetic issues affecting the teeth, gums, and bite. This dental procedure can address concerns such as stains, chips, misalignment, missing teeth, and more.

Here are the steps following for the procedure:

Diagnosis

A dentist will thoroughly examine a patient’s mouth before recommending a full mouth reconstruction. X-rays may be taken of your teeth and jaw to look for signs of decay, misalignment, or other issues. This will help the dentist determine the best treatment plan for your needs. From there, your dentist will be able to give you an estimated cost of treatment. This will often include the cost of any additional procedures you may need in addition to the full mouth reconstruction. Talk to your dentist about financing options if you are worried about how you will pay for your treatment.

Planning and Preparation

Once a treatment plan has been determined, your dentist will create a wax-up model or scan your mouth to begin the fabrication process of your restorations. This temporary restoration will give you an idea of what your final results will look like so that you can make any necessary adjustments before your final restorations are ready to be bonded to your teeth. Typically, the model includes a representation of each tooth that will receive a crown and a visualization of how all of the teeth will fit together when restored. Your dentist may also suggest changes to your smile to help maximize your results. For example, if you have a large gap between your front teeth, they may suggest orthodontics or a veneer close it. That way, you only have one restoration instead of two. In some cases, your dentist may recommend procedures like implants, veneers, inlays/onlays, braces, or crowns to complete your full mouth reconstruction. After all of your treatment, our dentist in Wheat Ridge will fit you with your custom set of final restorations and bond them to your teeth for a permanent solution.

Restorations

There are a variety of restorations that can be performed for full mouth reconstruction, including dental crowns, bridges, implant-supported crowns and veneers, root canal therapy, inlays, and onlays. The type of restoration you undergo will depend on your individual case. After your exam, your dentist will discuss your options with you and help you determine which procedure(s) are best for your unique needs.
